Full-time Development Manager - 40 hours/week

Gemini Ink's mission is to teach the craft of writing to people of all skill levels so they can bring their stories to life. Since 1993, Gemini Ink has functioned as San Antonio's writing arts center, nurturing excellence in the craft of writing and promoting literary and reader engagement throughout the city. Our year-round programs nurture the creative voices of tomorrow,  increase access to the literary arts, and celebrate the rich literary culture of our city and region.

As a dynamic, small-to-midsize nonprofit dedicated to celebrating the writing arts, our passionate team works collaboratively to deliver impactful programming, nurture artistic expression, and engage our community. We are seeking a full-time Development Manager to join our hardworking team and add critical capacity to our development initiatives.

Position Overview: The Development Manager will play a key role in supporting and expanding our development efforts, by focusing on grant management, providing key support for fundraising events, spearheading membership growth, and helping to oversee donor stewardship. This role will report to the Executive Director and work closely with other team members to achieve fundraising goals and build lasting relationships with donors, sponsors, members, and our vibrant literary community.
 

Essential Duties:

Grant Management:

  • Oversee the organization’s growing portfolio of grants.
  • Create an annual grant map.
  • Envision and oversee an update to grant management interface for the whole organization to streamline systems for how staff can access grant information.
  • Manage grant timelines, reporting deadlines, and application processes.
  • Collaborate with our contracted grant writer to draft and submit grant proposals; craft budgets and financial narratives for grants, with input on larger grants from the Executive Director, and when needed.
  • Preferred: Able to do data visualization for grants and donor impact reports.
     

Fundraising Events:

  • Work with the Executive Director to plan and execute major fundraising events, including:                          
    • Inkstravaganza: Our annual gala, attracts 250-300 guests.
    • Spring Biennial  Autograph Luncheon: A signature event with 200-250 attendees.
  • Manage event logistics, such as coordinating vendors, timelines, and materials.
  • Work with fundraiser committees alongside the Executive Director.
  • Assist in outreach to secure sponsorships and partnerships for events.
     

Membership Program:

  • Oversee and grow our membership program to increase member engagement and retention.
  • Update membership offerings, benefits, and communications.
  • Implement strategies to expand our membership base and enhance member experiences.
     

Donor Stewardship:

  • Support the Executive Director and Director of Programs in donor cultivation and stewardship. 
  • Assist with donor communications, acknowledgments, presentations at site visits, and relationship-building efforts. This responsibility will be phased in after onboarding and may not begin until the second year.
  • Assist in growing our donor base.
     

Skills and qualifications needed:

  • 3-5 years of experience in development, fundraising, grant management, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with event planning, logistics, and outreach is a plus.
  • Proficiency with donor databases, CRM systems, or grant management tools is preferred.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
  • Passion for the arts and enthusiasm for nonprofit work.
  • Solution-focused and flexible, able to pivot depending on the needs of the organization.
  • A willingness to learn and an ability to work with a wide range of people and perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of Mac and PC platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and social media; comfortable with Excel, Adobe Pro, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of MailChimp is a plus, but not required.
     

Position details:

  • Type: Full-time, exempt position at 40 hours per week.
  • Location: Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) with flexibility to adjust the schedule as the new hire learns what works best.
  • Salary: $45,000 - $51,000 annually, depending on level of experience, with room for growth following annual performance reviews.
